I'm sitting here culling (attempting to cull) images from the Lizard and Brockstar's wedding and I find myself taking a walk down memory lane. I was the first of many of my close friends to get married (2 years ago) and much to my surprise, nearly all of them got engaged this year! Last May, after studying psychology for 6 years in school, I decided to pursue photography. I was dead set against doing wedding photography because I just didn't think I could trust myself with something that important. After all, it's someone's wedding day and you can't exactly do it over if you didn't get the shot you needed! But after some time and practice with my camera, I began to warm up to the idea and shortly after, started shooting weddings with my trusty sidekick. I'm referring to J if you didn't already know that (:
It's been amazing journey so far and I feel like it's no coincidence that just after I began shooting weddings, all my friends got engaged. Perhaps what's even more amazing, is that my friends trust me enough to capture something so important. The Lizard's wedding was the first of a group of friends' weddings I'll be shooting over the next year and while the perfectionist in me is rearing her ugly head and telling me to be afraid because I want to do things perfectly, I'm so excited that I've been chosen to participate in such a unique way.
The Lizard's wedding served as a first for me in several ways. It was the first wedding I've ever shot for one of my close friends, the first wedding where my parents and grandpa were in the big group shot and I got to order them around (that was fun!) and the first wedding I've ever been in besides my own. I was so excited to be a bridesmaid that day and when my bouquet dried up this week, I almost shed a tear when I had to throw it away.
I consider myself to be fairly proficient when it comes to multitasking. But serving as a photographer and a bridesmaid gave me a run for my money! Thankfully my good friend Nicole Deanne was on hand that morning to make sure I looked polished while running around with my camera all day!
Stay tuned for Liz and Brock's day before session in the near future.
